Hi! I'm Kammy.
I'm a developmental editor and book coach.
I'll help you work through what's keeping your book manuscript from working, and provide full support and accountability to help you get your manuscript to the finish line!
Genres accepted: Literary Fiction • Upmarket Fiction • General Nonfiction • Business • Sales and Marketing
Writing can be scary. I’m your fearless editor.
All writers have blind spots. And tangent tendencies. If you're a creative, you know the creative process is a roller coaster. Overwhelm crashes in fast in a moment of struggle. It feels easier to walk away from the computer for days, or weeks — that can turn into months, or longer. Our in-progress folders languish. But with the right support, you can choose to keep moving forward, even when hurdles pop up.

Experience

Edited content: books• ebooks • flyers • email copy • ad copy • one-sheets • employee bios • employee handbooks • company presentations • white papers • social media posts • blog posts • press releases • RFPs • business letters • personal letters • editorials • website copy • and much more
A sampling of my clients over the last 15+ years: Jeff Pasquale, author and leadership coach • Fatima Ruiz, author of Cheerful By Design • Thrive Street Advisors • Accelerant • Beckman Coulter • Microsoft • Fixate IO • i30 Media • Sauce Labs • Dan Gordon Enterprises • FounderTraction • Spectrum Promotional Products • Emily Stopper, DDS • Sculpt • Pancreatic Cancer Action Network • ACRES Project ... and many, many more I can’t name because NDAs and editorial confidentiality matter.
My Approach
Writing a book is something we choose to do. But when we're in the weeds, technical and emotional issues can trigger massive overwhelm.
Which is all the more reason you should work with an editor and book coach who understands the highs and lows of the writing and editing process. Who understands that keeping your voice, intent, and message matters most — while keeping your ideal reader in mind.
What most influences my approach to your manuscript:
The goals for your book
The audience for your writing, or the audience you want to attract
The style and tone you want to use
The state of your current draft
The status of your book manuscript (in other words — have you just started, are you in the middle, or is it complete?)
Important note: I am not an academic editor. I also don't apply formal styles to anyone's work unless it's 100% called for. I am not a formal person, and we aren't living in a formal time. I'm flexible. No worries 😉
Editing samples are available for review on request.
Are We a Good Match?
Author-editor alignment is crucial. I want you to have the best possible experience as we transform your manuscript! We're likely a good match if:
Your book manuscript fits into one of the following genres or categories: Nonfiction, General Fiction, Literary Fiction, Upmarket Fiction, Business, Sales and Marketing
You’re looking for a thoughtful and honest editorial partner and collaborator who understands what you're trying to achieve and believes in authenticity
You want to work with someone who's willing to go to the mat to make sure your writing connects with readers
You’re open to potentially significant revisions
You're in alignment with the following editorial philosophies:
First: Focus on the largest issues in your story
Our work together is a genuine collaboration
Writing a high-quality manuscript is a human-only endeavor
Writing a book is a marathon, not a sprint (unless you have a book contract and a tight deadline 🙂)
We probably aren't a good match if:
You aren't open to heavy revision of your manuscript to make it the best it can be
You value speed over quality
You want to write a manuscript that's "exactly like" another author's work
You’re only looking for line editing, copyediting or proofreading

FAQs
Q: What does a developmental editor do?
A developmental editor reads your book manuscript several times, looking at the core of the text, and will point out the manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses — with a focus on clarity, structure, and any issues that may be holding your manuscript back. They may also provide actionable feedback to help you with future edits if you prefer to work on your own.
Q: What is a book coach?
To put it simply, a book coach fills the 1:1 author support role that editors at publishing houses used to hold before major shifts in modern book publishing changed the publishing landscape. Book coaches offer personalized guidance and feedback as you write and edit your book manuscript, with the goal of saving you time, frustration, and making the writing journey more enjoyable! You'll end up with a final draft on par with the quality you see from editorial teams at traditional publishing houses, regardless of your publishing goals.
Q: What's your background?
I have a BA in English with a Minor in Communication from ESU. After graduation, I started working at my local Barnes and Noble store, and continued working there for 17 years. In 2010, with my mom's encouragement, I started taking on freelance editing work part-time while still working at B&N.
In 2014, I began working full time as a freelance editor and proofreader, focused on offering developmental, structural, copy, and line editing, as well as proofreading. In 2020, due to changing client needs (and requests), I began offering book coaching services. In 2025, I shifted my editorial focus solely to developmental editing to better serve authors.
Q: Are you willing to sign an NDA?
Absolutely. Confidentiality is part of my work.
Q: Do you use AI or LLMs in any parts of your work?
No. My experience with the tech thus far has been less than stellar. Every client I’ve worked with since 2024 has sent me a draft that is at least 50 percent LLM outputs. Here’s the truth — in every case, I’ve had to help those clients start new drafts.
Q: May I see samples of your work?
Of course! Get in touch and I can send you edited pieces or pages.
Q: Do you offer free sample edits?
Sorry, no. But I’m happy to schedule a free 15-minute intro call to help you determine whether we’d work well together. You can also visit my YouTube channel to find out more about me and my approach.
Q: How many clients do you work with at any given time?
I work with a maximum of three clients at a time. This allows me to provide the strongest focus on you and your book manuscript. If you have a manuscript that requires a major overhaul and you'd like me to focus on it exclusively, let me know.
